Course Outline:
The goal of the competent climber/rescuer course is to be able to get a comprehensive understanding of climbing and rescuing on Towers. Competent climbers will have the ability to recognize fall hazards and take corrective action. Competent climbers will gain knowledge and understanding that enables them to look at a task at hand and determine what type of fall protection systems should be used. Competent climbers will have the expertise to recognize fall hazards, equipment hazards, and have the authority to mitigate those hazards. Competent Climbers will have the capacity to develop proper climbing plans to indicate what anchorages are acceptable for any authorized climbers, as well as any fall protection systems. Competent Rescuers will have the skill to rescue injured climbers in the field, as well as develop a rescue plan for the team. Competent rescuers will need a pre-established rescue plan in place, but also, the adaptability to perform a rescue in different tower circumstances.
Note: The Competent Climber/Rescuer course is good for two years. Every two years the 8 hour competent climber/rescuer course will need to be taken again for re-certification
